I'm not sure if much new has happened since I last updated, or if I know how to fill in the gaps.
I had the most amazing dream the other night. I dreamed that I was woken up by other volunteers in my group and told that I just had to come outside...It was spring! It was early morning and when I sat up in my bed I could see gold sunlight pouring in and that the grass outside was green. I felt like Dear Prudence. Spring will be here soon enough, and the sky will be blue again. I can make it!
Work is going very well. Helping with the computer at the hospital is great... it's been trying (patience wise), but I feel like I'm a huge asset there. The nurses didn't know how to turn the computer on and off, and now we're making charts of patients information together using Excel. It's fantastic.
Class with the students is also very good. I'm so happy when I'm at the hospital or in the school. I'm happiest when I'm working... that's a good thing. I spent this past weekend having an American Culture Club meeting with some of my students from 7th and 8th grade (we listened to and discussed American music / styles of music) and then I helped them with their English for another 2 hours. A ton of fun for me and the kids. I live for that here.
I stayed in the village this past weekend cause I had hoped to finish up work with Viorica on a breast cancer seminar (for teachers at our school), but she strangely didn't return my call on Sunday. I spent time at school with Valentina, and then dropped by Viorica's house to see how she was doing. She has been wanting to have a second child for a long time. Apparently she had become pregnant this January, but lost the baby over the weekend. She didn't want to tell anyone she was pregnant in case the pregnancy didn't go through. If the pregnancy had followed through, she was going to tell me that she couldn't work with me as my partner next year. We'll now be working together for my final year. She was pretty torn-up when I saw her. She went to the hospital after I left and was back in the village today. Her nurse partner called her up this morning and found out someone had broken into her cellar (probably the night she was gone and her young son was home) and stolen all of their wine and jarred meat. So basically all of their food for winter. I went to the post office to mail a letter to Caley, and she was waiting out front for the head policeman to show up for work that day to report what had happened. Later at school I heard they caught the people who broke into the cellar. Two young boys in the village that are in 8th grade, but don't show up to school. I don't know if they got all of the food back, but I'm glad that at least they found out who did it. It's pretty necessary they do, honestly, find the food, because people here don't have the money to buy more if something goes missing.
News: bathroom stalls and doors have been erected in the downstairs bathrooms. I'm hoping more progress will be made!
